This Year of the Dog is a celebration with a wide array of festive events that you may want to take part in while you take a holiday out here in Hong Kong for the Lunar New Year 2018.

A. HONG KONG DISNEYLAND

From January 18 to March 4 this year, Hong Kong Disneyland offers great attractions, treats and celebrations this Year of the Dog! Have an outlook of the festive and colourful events such as the Chinese New Year Night Market, Chinese New Year Lai si Giveaway and the Complimentary In-Room Overlay if you decide to have a staycation at their resort hotels. If you haven’t visited the newest one, the Disney Explorer’s Lodge, is an experience like no other offering you the vibe of Asia, Oceania, South America and Africa.

B. DOWNTOWN LUNAR NEW YEAR PARADE

Gung Hei Fat Choy!!!! This is “Happy New Year!!!!” in Chinese. Practice this as you celebrate downtown with the local people while watching the most sought after event during the Lunar New Year. The most popular and the most spectacular that all families enjoy are both the Lion Dance and the Dragon Dance. Traditionally, the parade featuring this fun performances are joined by drummers, acrobats, and entertainers dressed in colourful cultural costumes. Fire-crackers are one of the highlights and most often, wrapped up with a beautiful symphony of lights and fireworks.

C. HARBOUR CRUISES AND FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR

This year, the lunar celebration falls a day after the traditional Valentine’s Day. If you plan to go solo with your loved one, you may want to discreetly have a rewarding getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city of Hong Kong. There are websites offering a cruise by the harbour with buffet dinner and drinks. Or you can choosing cuddling under a lovely fireworks display viewed at the Sky 100 for less than HK$100. If you’d like a mix of both quiet personal time with your partner and an unforgettable experience at the city, there are tours around the New Territories ending up at the Chinese New Year Parade.

The tour amounts to about 8 hours of an outdoor cultural adventure ideal for families. Hotel pick-up comes between 12-1pm so you can actually have a relaxing morning to prepare for the rest of the day’s itinerary. It includes visiting the Kam Tin Walled Village, Tin Has Temple, Lam Tsuen Wishing Tree and Tse Sui Luen Jewellery Factory. All entrance fees are included in the tour package and so is the light dinner before you go to your designated seats at the city to see the Chinese New Year parade.
